Why prep is everything
Even the best topcoat fails on a poorly prepared surface. Good prep is what makes a paint system last.
Step 1: Clean
Remove all dirt, salt, and loose material. A thorough wash is the starting point.
Step 2: Degrease
Wipe down with a solvent cleaner such as Awlprep to lift oils and contaminants that stop paint adhering.
Step 3: Abrade
Sand to the correct profile for your primer. Too smooth and paint won't key; too rough and you'll see it through the finish.
Step 4: Fair and prime
Fill and fair imperfections, then prime before topcoating.
